Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti [deepdesign] January 12, 2010

[deepdesign]

The project MINI & Triennale CreativeSet presents the [deepdesign] exhibition by Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti, continuing the series dedicated to Italian contemporary design in the CreativeSet space, at the Triennale Design Museum. December 17, 2009 to January 17, 2010.

This exhibit features a selection of projects which document the work of deepdesign, whose creative process is characterized by an intensely active search for shapes, technologies and new materials. At times, this very search becomes a radical reinterpretation of these forms.

Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti do not seek formal or commercial novelty. Rather, they pursue a level of real invention, going beyond industrial expectations.

Deepdesign´s quest seeks a union between functional complexity and formal organicism, modelled on the dynamics of the natural world.
Bazzicalupo and Mangiarotti draw instruments for everyday life that are efficient and innovative, but at the same time shaped by extraordinary elegance. Their projects are characterised by concise and soft forms, devoid of any redundancy.
Their objects range from the Pulse washing-machine to the Dandelion floor lamp, which are part of the permanent design and architecture collection at MOMA in New York, to the Flat piano (an original hybrid of piano and table).
