“Everyville” for Everyone September 12, 2008

This year the Biennale welcomes the ideas of a younger generation of architects in a radical way. Students from all over the world were invited to enter the "Everyville" competition. Based on a text written by Aaron Betsky about the town "Everyville" (a non-town that does not exist but could be anywhere), students were asked to submit drawings, texts and 3D models about how to create a sense of community architecturally. The agenda is "Community beyond place, Civic sense beyond architecture".

Everyville
This emerging architecture exhibition is especially important as the entries were judged by the world's leading architects Aaron Betsky, Zaha Hadid, Thomas MayneWolf D Prix, Francesco Delogu, Flavio Albanese and Luigi Centola. The winners become incorporated into the Biennale itself, a mean feat for any student!

783 projects were sent from around the world, and out of those 10 winners and 40 honorable mentions were chosen. These are presented in an interactive multimedia display and on the website www.everyville.labiennale.org.

Over the next week we will be interviewing all the winners we can catch up with. But in the meantime, here is an interview with Aaron Betsky explaining the Everyville concept.
