Touching down at the biggest MINI party of all time, the MINI Space Team is here to bring you the most exciting event coverage yet. The early scene on the ground in Southern France is one of old and new friends coming together from places far and wide.
Everywhere the sound of engines. Of thousands upon thousands of MINI motors rumbling along the hillsides of La Cadiére –d’Azur, through the storied vineyards of the Côtes de Provence, eastbound from the port of Marseilles, en route from the legendary coastal idylls of Cannes, Nice… Monaco. Some even chose to tackle a northeastern approach, descending upon MINI United 2012 from the Alps belonging to France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
All are arriving at this epicenter of anticipation with engines plenty warm. There isn’t a driver taking a space on the broad tarmac of Le Castellet’s airport here — which has become a spectacular MINI United parking lot —that opens the door of their MINI without a broad grin or slight joyous outburst of laughter.
MINI United is finally upon us.
The arrival vibe is totally infectious, and the backstory of these arrivals is one we can’t help but dig into right away — who are these tens of thousands of MINIacs? Surely the endless caravans of MINI faithful motoring through the small villages and towns of the region have sparked countless conversations to that very end amongst the local people. Where do they come from, what many paths brought them to unite in this corner of the earth?
It’s a big question, one we could spend a lifetime trying to answer — the MINI Community has millions of stories to tell. What we will do is to tell the tale of some of the most interesting fans we come across in the days to come here at MINI United. At the moment, the sun is casting its rays across the festival grounds in a most spectacular fashion, bringing to life a scene filled with as many colorful characters exploring the grounds as there are magnificent MINI resting after their long journeys, in preparation for the action-packed weekend that lies ahead.
