While searching for the next Portfolio of the Week we were drawn to Livia Palone – a photographer and singer-songwriter from Rome who also paints and draws. Her talents on the page are impressive and her artistic aesthetic extends into all aspects of her life and projects.
MINI Space: Hi Livia, congratulations on being Portfolio of the Week! How would you describe your creative style in just five words?
Livia: Sensitive, evergreen, living, suffering, and hopeful.
MINI Space: To what extent would you define your creativity as multi-faceted?
Livia: I would define myself as a creative multi-tasker, without limits if possible, but I concentrate most on music, digital art, photography, drawing, and writing.
MINI Space: It is easy to see from your portfolio that the human body really inspires you.
Livia: Well, one thing's for sure: we are both body and soul (and it doesn't matter if we believe in God or not). My soul has always been fascinated by the observation of the human body. We must not deny our body, as it is a part of us: the part that makes us appear!
MINI Space: We also noticed references to classic Italian art in your work; Botticelli, for example.
Livia: Well, I'm Italian, I'm an architect, and though I'm more of a singer now, art has always meant so much to me, especially Italian art from the Medieval period to the 17th century. I'm impressed by the ability of these artists to break past rules while remaining so "harmonious" and communicative.
MINI Space: So you are also working as a singer and songwriter?
Livia: Yes. Right now I'm recording a demo CD to send to Italian and foreign labels to try to get some of my songs produced. I'm already doing live shows, because I love to share my passion for music with an audience. I have been "breathing" music since I was born, and I find it a fantastic way to express myself and say something that might also be important to others. I update my web accounts every day to show off new videos and present my music to new listeners.

MINI Space: How do music and design work together in your eyes?
Livia: Well, to me, the world of art is unique and separate, as much as I want to believe that we should really be one united world. I guess design is a way to express oneself in the hope of realizing something good for both the artists and the people interacting with them - and it's the same way with music. Design and music are two sides of the same coin.
MINI Space: Where did you hear about MINI Space? What do you like most about the platform?
Livia: I heard about it through a friend. I like that there is just so much to explore, I have yet to discover it thoroughly. And I love being able to share work in a "light" and easy way.
MINI Space: Are you working on any specific projects right now? What are your future plans?
Livia: I have some deadlines coming up for my music. My new songs should all be recorded by the end of February, but I actually have five unpublished songs online already. My future plans are to be as happy as I can by using my creativity but also my human skills. If I could, I would love to help people ... I truly believe in art as a therapy.
MINI Space: Thanks a lot and good luck with your projects. Keep us updated!
