I maintain a large vinyl LP collection, and was just blown away by listening to two Turk Murphy LP's last night, "Dancing Jazz," and "Live at the New Orleans Jazz Festival." Those 1950's pre-stereo LP's on the Lin Sondek turntable made my living room sound like a jazz club, much better than the sound from most CD's I hear. My tastes in music are diverse, running from classical (I am currently on a Jordi Savall tear), through jazz, rock, and country.
I am reading Martin Goodman's "Rome and Jerusalem; The Clash of Ancient Civilizations." The book is hard to put down; history that reads like an epic novel. The previous book I read was about archaeology in Israel and Palestine, and the last airport bookstore book I read was Elmore Leonard's "Up in Honey's Room," an amazing book. How does Leonard do it?
As far as movies go, I am a fan of the Coen Brothers and the Polish Brothers, and am watching my way through "Essential Art House; 50 Years of Janus Films," a 50 DVD collection of films brought to U.S. art house cinemas by Janus Films.
I was born in the Pacific Northwest, but have lived most of my adult life in various European and Middle Eastern capitals.
In the mundane realm, I enjoy cities, museums, archeological/historical sites, the beach, the mountains, travelling, food and wine, skiing and bicycling.
